The National Responsible Gambling Programme (NRGP) is the flagship initiative of the SARGF, whose operational mandate and authority is anchored in the National Gambling Regulations of 2004, which legally integrate the NRGP into the advertising, player protection guidelines. Delivering an agile, public health response to gambling-related harm across South Africa.
Through evidence-led education, proactive surveillance, and population screening, which enables the SARGF top track and trace the extent and the prevalence of problem gambling and gambling disorder. In addition, the NRGP provides a comprehensive, FREE clinical care and counselling designed to support individuals and families affected by problem gambling and gambling disorder.
The programme explores the realities of underage and youth gambling, the social pressures that can influence risky behaviour, and the potential financial, emotional, and academic consequences of gambling-related harm. Through age-appropriate content, participants learn about legal restrictions, responsible decision-making, and where to seek support when needed. Together, both editions equip young people with the knowledge and confidence to navigate risk responsibly and make choices that support their long-term well-being and success.
